Vocational training IoPT trauma therapy practitioner advanced level 3

For therapists, counselors, coaches, social workers, youth care workers, mental health psychologists, mental health care professionals and other professional counselors, such as trainers, advisors, mediators, teachers and refugee aid workers, who work from person to person and want to make a deeper and more lasting impact on their own clients and/or work relations.

This is the training if you want to learn how to work with your clients from a trauma awareness perspective. You will learn about psychotraumatology, trauma counseling and trauma processing based on Identity Oriented Psychotrauma Theory (IoPT) by Prof. Dr. Franz Ruppert. You will learn IoPT with his “advanced level 3” training.
It is an intensive process to deepen the craft (knowledge and skills) of the profession being a practitioner.

This program is unique in that it emphasizes facilitator skills; your growth is central, your attitude, skills and especially the “being clean” of personal issues. As a result, a client can really be helped in what he or she needs and on the layer that is needed.

From the first moment you practice facilitating in different modalities. After this training you can start working from this method.
With IoPT trauma therapy you can continue where you left off with other therapies. You can help people really heal.

The training has 24 teaching days in 8 blocks of 3 days.
KTNO accredited for 10.5 ECTS at higher vocational education (Bachelor) level. Licensed trainer.

“IoPT-Training based on the
original training of Prof. Dr. Franz Ruppert.”

… supplemented with facilitator skills and case studies.

Why would you want to do this vocational training?

As practitioners we have a unique position. We may be the first to offer a healthy relationship and healing. After all, people are damaged in (unhealthy) relationships; people heal in (healthy) relationships.

That is why this training not only teaches the theory in depth, facilitation and dynamics of IoPT; but there is a lot of attention for the practitioner, the attitude, skills and especially the “being clean” of personal issues. As a result, a client can really be helped in what he or she needs and on the layer that is needed.

With this training you get an IoPT informed vision on the craft of being a practitioner. Experience shows that both professionals and their clients can immediately transform on a deep layer through direct contact and involvement.

What is unique is that in this year you learn to facilitate with full attention to skills and pitfalls:

  • The great focus on facilitator skills is integrated in this training; each module gives a specific window.
  • Working with IoPT in the individual setting is integrated, where, with others, you have to follow an expensive module.
  • From day one you learn to facilitate yourself. After this training you can start your own practice.
  • The students’ professional goals with underlying themes and the questions that have been submitted in advance are input for the curriculum.

As a facilitator you are the instrument and the method

In our practice we are confronted with problems that are not on a cognitive level. Stress, fears, inability to enter into a relationship with oneself or with others, uncontrolled emotions and (self-)destructive patterns and even self-perpetratorship. These are issues that touch on their identity. These problems originate from deeply buried, even unconscious, unprocessed trauma in the client’s life.

Trauma shapes our life. The way we live, the way we love and engage into our relationships. Trauma distorts our view of reality and is very self-centered. It affects our ability to be in the moment and present in our relationships. Trauma leaves us stuck in constriction, depression, and helplessness; in defense, manipulation, violence and exploitation. Trauma leaves traces in body, mind and soul. For example, it causes (inexplicable) physical and psychological complaints, post-traumatic stress and losing contact with who you really are and what you really want. Trauma is much more than just something that has happened.

Trauma recovery is only one step at a time. Working on recovery requires a lot of safety and courage to descend further and further into the depths of the psyche so that the traumatic experiences can eventually integrate. To stay with the stress in the body and learn to regulate it.

For us as professional practitioners it is of great importance to deeply understand the enormous impact of psychotrauma. To really be there when clients face the overwhelming part of their life story, descend into the depths of their experiences and encounter their panic, loneliness and pain. To be intrinsically safe as a supervisor, to facilitate carefully and skillfully from compassion, experience and knowledge and to “be clean” of all pitfalls. Om op meerdere lagen tegelijkertijd te werken.

That is only possible if we face our own unprocessed traumas. Naturally, mastery of theoretical knowledge is also indispensable. After all, you are the instrument and the method. You can only help others to the growth that you yourself have experienced and lived through. By working on your own healthy autonomy and identity development, you can guide your clients to theirs. It brings you and your clients connection, happy relationships and a fulfilling life.

We work with IoPT

The training is focused on the trauma theory IoPT* of Prof. Dr. Franz Ruppert and his intention method as therapy. Sometimes links are made to other trauma theories.

IoPT gives a fundamentally different image of yourself, your clients, your relationships and society. I teach you to look at the causes under diagnoses and social issues. With IoPT you can guide people, at the intersection of coaching, counseling and therapy, where others did not go further.
*) IoPT stands for Identity Oriented Psychotrauma Theory and Therapy.

The result of what you learn is:

  • You learn what identity and autonomy of the client is really about.
  • You learn to work with the client in the here-and-now and to recognize how and where the client loses contact with itself.
  • You learn to work with the body, with its signals and with increasing the stress tolerance in the body.
  • You learn to guide in-depth personal processes in a careful manner, at the intersection of coaching, counseling and therapy.
  • You learn to work on several layers at the same time.
  • You learn to work with the core issue of the client in the first session.
  • You learn how to break through recurring problems.
  • You first enter into a complete relationship with yourself so that you can be fully there for the other person.
  • You learn about your own education, preferences and pitfalls.
  • You learn to offer a healthy relationship, compassionate, and therefore healing.
  • You will develop a foundation of in-depth knowledge and understanding of psychotrauma, attachment, stress and trauma.
  • You learn to look at the causes under diagnoses and social issues.
  • You have clear own and social norms.
  • You learn to make complex dynamics visible and teach clients healthy interactions.
  • You learn to work with offenders.
  • You learn the IoPT theory thoroughly in clear blocks.

Program

The training is based on Ruppert’s original IoPT Level 3 Advanced training, including his original material.

Way of working

The theory is alternated with practical experience. Every day the trainer facilitates someone, after which the students practice facilitating themselves, whether or not in subgroups or individually.

The use of the method with different modalities (live, online, group guidance, individual guidance) with the corresponding interventions is demonstrated, explained and practiced step by step. Everyone takes on different roles; facilitator, researcher (intention bringer), resonant, observer.

After each process, the student reflects on his own facilitation and receives structured feedback from the trainer and fellow students. The case is discussed in depth from different perspectives and based on the theme of the module. The debriefing takes place in an atmosphere of collaborative learning through discovery.

Study schedule

The training consists of 24 contact days. Every 6 weeks there is a block as follows:

Module 1 Introduction to IoPT & Psychotrauma
Module 2 Intention method & Psychotherapy
Module 3 Trauma Biography: Trauma of Identity
Module 4 Trauma Biography: Trauma of Love
Module 5 Trauma Biography: Trauma of Sexuality
Module 6 Perpetrator Victim dynamics
Module 7 Early Trauma & Health
Module 8 Harvesting & Integration

You are expected to participate in an intervision group between the modules. The intervision is intended to practice on each other, to reflect on yourself, to receive feedback and thereby to confirm yourself on the one hand and to experience your points for development on the other.

You prepare the homework assignments for each module. After the learning moments you write your own reflection reports. At the end of the year you present your annual assignment.

The study load per module is approx. 11 uur.

Learning objectives

The learning objectives are:

Theory
What is “trauma”, early (childhood) trauma and stress; work with the split model; recognizing and being able to apply the trauma triad; trauma biography & retraumatization; will, consciousness and psyche; preverbal and precognitive; the relationship between I, Identity & Intention and relationship to IoPT; characteristics of “living” and of “survival” including PTSD; system and context; “entanglement”; connection between psyche and health; way out of roots of trauma; method of intention and bodywork.

Facilitation
Client autonomy; framework; what does security mean; reading the intention; the dance of following the client – knowing nothing instead of knowing better; coping with trauma reactions; retraumatization; recognizing where the client is (past-future, symbiotic-autonomy, dissociation-present, trauma triad); processing trauma emotions in the present; work on more layers at the same time; when and when not to intervene – and how?; healing movement; taboos.

Personal growth
Only when you know your own black holes can you guide your clients through theirs. And so self-reflection and living through your own deep themes is essential.
Effect of trauma on therapeutic relationship; prevention of (counter)transference, identifications-entanglement-dependencies; own blind spots, looking at one’s own traumas, (dis)regulating trauma feelings of both the facilitator and the client, authenticity and “standing” for “neutrality”, being able to assess where the client is (safe holding space) so that your client really gets the depth; facilitation of highly cognitive clients, of “difficult people”; counseling of perpetrators; self-care; formulate and coherently reflect on personal and growth of practitioner; tools for (self-)assessment; feedback; tone training.

Literature

You will receive a list of used books beforehand. Count around €110 for recommended books. Vivian Broughton’s booklet: Becoming Your True Self (2015) will be sent to you as preparation.
